Combining dance instructions with a fairy-tale like story, this DVD offers kids an enjoyably different way to learn dance steps as well as get some indoor exercise. Although not a big budget project, the DVD does present a fun story about a group of kids who wind up inside a magical music box where they must learn a variety of dance steps in order of break a spell. In the process, the kids in the story (and at home) learn a number of different dance styles. While the dancing is more accomplished than the acting, it still makes for entertaining, and interactive, family viewing.

The production is the brainchild of Benedicte Schoyen. A longtime choreography and dance teacher, Schoyen has operated the Santa Monica Dance Studio for around a dozen years. Her goal with this DVD is to help in the nation’s battle with childhood obesity by getting kids more active through dance. Moreover, Schoyen’s Born To Play Production will make a 10% donation from every DVD sale to Operation Smile, the worldwide charity that provides free reconstructive surgery to children with facial deformities.

The Music Box is a brilliant idea. With all the kids staying in the house these days. The music box get them up and gives them some kind of activity and give them a work out. The kids now need more things like the music box and it's a start to handling the obeasity problem with our kids today.

Fantastic for Toddlers and Children!

I bought this for my 3 toddlers 18 month old twin boys and 2½ year old daughter. They had no dancing experience, they just showed interest in dancing along with television shows or whenever there was music on. I wanted to get them a video that would show them steps as they got older, but would also just let them dance along to the music and watch a movie for fun.

This video was perfect. It has excellent characters, a wonderful story, and can be watched for play, or for beginning dance instruction from professional dancers. I watched the behind the scenes extras and, talk about an experienced cast and crew!

This is really a well done production. They put together a fun video that encompasses a variety of needs. The kids love it. All three dance through out the whole thing as often as they can convince me to play it. (They would watch it back to back all day, every day...) (o:

Thank you so much for the DVD. All 3 grand kids loved it! They followed the story and got up and danced to each new dance. I was amazed. I was also impressed with the story, choreography,lighting and music. It's way better than Barney!

I bought The Music Box from my daughter's new ballet teacher, who produced this video. I thought it would be just a poorly done dance video for little kids,...Man, was wrong! This is a fantastic DVD. It introduces dance in a way that I never thought possible. Very well done. My kids (3 and 4 1/2) both LOVE IT. My daughter loves it for the pretty ballerinas and the storyline. My son loves the other styles of dance and figuring out the clues. This video is a major winner!!!

Thought to give you a little feedback regarding the DVD.
The reason we bought it was a begging plea from the kindergarten. They showed the film in connection with a dance project in the early fall of 2009, and in particular the youngest kids have since not wanted to watch other films than this one. The staff hopes now that most of the kids will get their needs satisfied at home, so they can show some other movies again. You should take this as a big compliment.
Still, after 9 months, my 2 year old loves it when the movie comes on, and she does not sit still for a second but is dancing along the whole way. Our 4-year-old has learned the steps and makes dance performances for us all the time. The funny thing is that she actually has figured out quite a few tap-dance-steps. When she hears tap dance music, she is the first that begins to tap :-)

We adults especially like that the film is slower pace, has 'ordinary' voices (as opposed to the voices used when dubbing cartoons for kids), a kind theme and nice music.

I am a young mom and got this from a Norwegian girlfriend here in L.A...and my son loves it SO much and like to let everybody know this is great for children to get them to dance and have joy! I also plan to use it a Christmas and B-day gifts for my friends kids. Fun for all kids! I Highly recommend it for any child to enjoy ;)

My son and daughter have not let me take this DVD out of our DVD player since we received it. It's a wonderful blend of all sorts of dance styles and keeps my twins absolutely mesmerized. This is a HIT and I plan on giving it to all of our friends' children for their birthdays!

I'm working as a teacher in Norway, and her we've got Music Box, with an educational guide, and I’m happy to say that this tool is working perfectly for me. Insecurity when it comes to dancing with children was my concern before, but now I’m looking forward to each time we get the chance to use this dvd.
The rest of the tool is also helping me to develop the childrens social skills, their creativity and it’s good learning for developing language.
All in all, music box (with it’s educational guide) are representing something that’s been missing in my work for a long time.

I played Music Box Dance Along Fairytale for my three grandchildren and I am very happy that I had the opportunity to do so. I loved watching them react to the music and the dancers. My twin two year old granddaughters laughed and moved to the music. My four year old grandson was fascinated as I explained the story of the lost Prince. I enjoyed it just as much as they did! Children love this because it is interactive and made for them. It entertains and teaches at the same time. They will learn different dance styles and become familiar with Classical music. I appreciate the love and caring for children that went into the making of Music Box Dance Along Fairytale. I recommend this for every child.
